We just can’t get enough of them! Y es una pena, porque raramente se aprenden en clase de inglés, sin embargo los nativos las usan a diario.

Es la manera súper indirecta de decir que alguien es muy malo haciendo algo. Como se dice en inglés: You suck! Vamos, que eres un paquete.
“What do you think about my painting. It’s lovely, isn’t it?”
“Er, don’t give up the day job darling!”
To blow your own trumpet.
¡Quién no conoce a alguien a quién le guste soplar su propia trompeta! A este tipo de persona le encanta presumir y hablar de sí mismo. Sería algo así como tirarse flores o darse bombo.
¿Te acuerdas del phrasal verb que significa presumir? ………….
To show … off!
“It’s not that I like blowing my own trumpet, but you should be aware that I have been awarded as the best employee for three consecutive years.”

It’s all Greek to me!
Si algo te suena a griego, quiere decir que no entiendes nada de nada. Vamos, como si te hablaran en chino.
“I think the issue with the clutch in your car is that the disk is failing to disengage the flywheel.”
“It’s all Greek to me, I’ll just take it to the garage and get it repaired.”
Oye, pero ¿y si tienes un nivel fluido de griego? Mmm …. good question …

As cool as a cucumber.
Alguien que se mantiene fresco como un pepino, es alguien que sabe guardar la compostura en una situación difícil.
“Did you watch Jonathan’s debut on TV last night?”
“Yes, I did, it must have been scary to stand in front of that audience, but he seemed cool as a cucumber.”

To take the mickey.
Significa reírse de alguien.
“Oh my godness, it was hillarious when the wind blew your skirt up and everyone looked ashtonished by your choice of underwear.”
“Oh stop taking the mickey! I had enough.”
También es muy común decir: Stop taking the mickey out of me!
The lights are on but nobody’s home.
Tener pocas luces.
Esta frase se usa para decir que alguien es un poco tonto o corto. En inglés puedes decir que alguien es un poco grueso, ‘a bit thick’.También se utiliza para referirse a personas olvidadizas (forgetful) o despistadas (absent-minded).
“Did you remember to buy rice for the rissotto?”
“Oh dear, I completely forgot about it! I have the mushrooms though.”
“The lights are on but nobody’s home!”
