Psssttt!
Are you ready for a fun lesson? Let’s go!
1. Llamar “teacher” a tu profesor.
“It’s a bit disrespectful”.
It’s not polite, is it?
- Escuelas de idiomas, clases particulares: first name.
- Colegio, instituto: Mr/ Mrs / Miss (mujer soltera) + last name.
2. Escribir “english” con minúscula.
DON’T SAY 👉 This english class is boring as hell.
SAY 👉 This English class is boring as hell.
Stop it please! 🙈
- idiomas
- nacionalidades
- meses
- días de la semana
I’m the English teacher for this course, my name’s Phillip and I’m British. Your final exam is in April, not long to go. Next Wednesday, I’ll be holding a mock test at 6 p.m, so make sure you don’t miss it. Now, let’s get down to business.
3. Preguntar: “What means…?”
DON’T SAY 👉 What means whimsical? What is the meaning of whimsical?
SAY 👉 What does whimsical mean?
- What does it mean?
- What does that sentence mean?
- What does whimsical mean?
Whimsical means unusual, strange in a way that might be funny or annoying.
For example… I do not enjoy marking essays, but this one has a whimsical sense of humour.
Some synonyms are: eccentric, mischievous, amusing, weird, odd, comical …
4. Contestar: “I don’t know.”
- I’m not sure.
- I’m not 100% sure.
- I don’t think I’ve heard it before.
- I’m struggling to remember.
- It rings a bell.
So, Isabel, what does the phrasal verb “pick up on” mean?
DON’T SAY 👉 I don’t know.
SAY 👉 Could you put it in a sentence for me?
Of course, let me help you out. Look at this example. “I misspelled Edinburgh in my essay, but my teacher didn’t pick up on it.”
👉 To pick up on: percatarse de, darse cuenta de …
Si te lo perdiste, “this video is a must”.
For homework!
Has your teacher ever told you off in class? To tell someone off 👉 regañar.

We’ll be back next week with another lovely English (with a capital E) lesson! See ya! 👋
I do not enjoy marking essays ¿No disfruto marcando redacciones?
I think it should be: I do not enjoy making essays
Hola Joaquín, es correcto 👉🏻 To mark an essay: corregir una redacción.
No se utiliza el verbo ‘to make’ en este caso, lo más natural es usar el verbo ‘to write’ 👉🏻 I love writing essays.
¡Un abrazo!
Thank you very much Isabelle and Phillip, you are the best! Always teaching original and very thoughtful material. When I use English I’m always wondering if what I said was appropriate or out of place.

Hello my friends, once a teacher, in the university, told me off because we wanted to give him a “mate”( something very popular in Argentina) and he thought that we were speaking and that we weren´t paying attention to him. When we explained the situation, the teacher smiled, drank the mate and continued with the class.
Thank you for these wonderful class.
Ha ha ha María 😂 At least he didn’t think you were addressing him as “mate” (colega). You’re so kind to offer tea to your teacher! ☕️
¡Hola! Solo quería comentar que no sé porqué en la frase “This is English class is boring as hell.” se pone dos veces el verbo to be. Gracias de antemano
Fue error Ángela.🙈 Well spotted!
Muchas gracias, ya está corregido. 👀😍
Ohhhhh!!! I have ever made any of these mistakes, but it’s over…..no more WHAT?, I
DON’T NOW or eNGLISH. Thank you very much dear english friends!
xxxxxxx
My English teacher told me off because I called “teacher”, but I’m not pretty sure when use Mr/Mrs
Oppss! The best thing is to ask your teacher Daniela. Usually if it’s a language school, you can address them by their first name. If it’s at school or uni, they might want to be address as Mr/Mrs + surname. A big hug for you!
Buenas noches, estoy algo confundida.
I’m the English « teacher »for this course, my name’s Phillip and I’m British
I hope it helps! 😍
😻😻😻😻❤❤❤ Me Encanta!! Thanks!! What is the meaning of……? 😿😿😿 Ya extrañaba tu bigote falso :’) Mr. Bartlett 🤣🤣🤣. Thanks my Goodness!!! De que you are here teaching us!!! 😊😊😊❤🇬🇧
Ha ha ha! I’m so glad María!
Yeah, long live to Mr Bartlett’s fake moustache! ✌🏻
