The normal, the weird, the good and bad habits! Estas expresiones te ayudarán…
Tend to
Phillip, you often tend to bite your nails and I find it extremely annoying.
Well, you often tend to check your phone every 5 minutes while we’re in a meeting and that gets on my nerves.
Can’t help
I can’t help squeezing avocados every time I go to buy my groceries.
I can’t help pinching babies’ cheeks every time I see one. They’re so cute!
Can’t seem to stop
Something I can’t seem to stop doing is snoozing my alarm in the mornings, which would explain why I’m always late.
I can’t seem to stop cracking my knuckles although I know it drives everyone up the walls!
Keep + “-ing”
Isabel, you keep forgetting to hang the clothes out to dry so they just sit in the washing machine until I find them.
You keep forgetting to put the milk back in the fridge whenever you make a cup of tea so it goes bad!
You will always find (me) + “-ing”
You’ll always find me holding my breath and overtaking people who are smoking in front of me. I hate cigarette smoke!
You will always find me lying on the floor, even though we have a sofa, a bed and obviously some chairs. But I just like it so much, you get a different perspective.
Always + “-ing”
Isabel, you’re always stealing my socks! Can’t you buy some of your own?
You’re always saying you’re going to go to the gym, but then you never do.
Get into the habit of + “-ing”
I have got into the habit of eating fruit every morning and I feel so good about myself!
I really want to get into the habit of running after work, so I’m doing a 30-day running challenge.
“Get into the habit of” es algo así como “coger la costumbre de…” y normalmente lo usamos para hábitos buenos.
I have about 4-5 cuppas every day. Drinking tea is second nature to me.
I’ve lived by the sea my whole life, so swimming is second nature to me.
Whenever I get the chance
Whenever I get the chance, I love jumping on my electric skateboard and going for a ride by the beach.
Whenever I have the chance I like stopping by my favourite cafe in town and ordering a slice of carrot cake.
¿Alguna vez te has preguntado cómo decir “siempre que puedo” en inglés? Ya tienes la respuesta: “Whenever I get the chance”!
Would (para hábitos del pasado)
I was a pretty active child at the weekends. My father would take me fishing every Saturday.
When I shared an apartment at uni, we would always order a curry take away and we would watch a film on Saturdays.
Have fun!

All smokers find it difficult to kick the habit, but life is better once they do.
I struggle to break the habit of driving everywhere. I’m just not used to walking!
Old habits die hard
Es difícil deshacerse de viejos hábitos
I know I should read instead of watching TV before going to bed, but old habits die hard.
By force of habit
Por costumbre, por fuerza de la costumbre

Creature of habit
Going back home is like time travelling to when I was a child. My parents always watch TV and have dinner at the same time, they’re creatures of habits.
